The Puerto Vallarta Flea Market
The Puerto Vallarta Flea Market is a must visit during your stay with us. Only 25 minutes from La Cruz by bus or taxi. The Puerto Vallarta flea market is the place to buy anything and everything that you may want to bring home as souvenirs and if you are a good negotiator then you can expect some great deals. The flea market is located just along the Cuale River on both sides, there is also the island market, the city market and the market place.
The whole market area is a shop-a-holic's dream, literally a hundred plus stores all within a few blocks. You'll find silver, pottery, clothing, leather goods, toys, paper machè figures, stuffed frogs, many unique artisan crafts galleries, clothing, plenty of tourist junk and of course, t-shirts galore. Don't forget to venture upstairs at the city market where few gringos go, but the ones who do can enjoy some of the most authentic Mexican food at bargain prices, sitting alongside the locals. Make sure to go across the swinging bridge to the island market, it is a beautiful stroll and plenty of more stuff to buy. The key to buying at the flea market is negotiation, generally offer half of the original price and let the bargaining begin. It is part of the fun people have exploring the market. The main city market is located just before the river behind the Hotel Rio which is at the south end of downtown between to two roads that cross the Cuale River which divides Centro from Old Town Vallarta. The market rests on the north side of the river and is bounded on the east by Insurgentes Street. There are multiple entrances on all sides (except the river side - of course), so once you find it you'll have no problem finding a way inside.
Be sure to bring pesos with you, you'll get a better deal than trying to deal in U.S. or Canadian dollars. There is an HSBC Bank with an ATM machine directly across Insurgentes Street from the Puerto Vallarta Flea Market.
